Our next concert is on Saturday 24th April, but you can hear us in action at any time! As part of our Choral Development Initiative we recorded Rutter's much loved Requiem and a selection of his most popular anthems for a professional CD, which was released in September 2003. All pieces were beautifully accompanied by Surrey ProMusica. You can read a report of the recording session here and find out how you can order your copy. Sacred and Secular, our second CD, was recorded in April 2006, and copies are now available. Visit the Sacred and Secular web page to find out more about this CD. The latest news on the recording front is that we have just recorded our third CD. Entitled Christmas Classics, it contains a wide variety of seasonal music, so if you'd like a copy, simply print out an order form and send it to us with your payment. Copies will also be available to purchase at our next concert.
If you can't wait until our next concert to experience the thrill of live performance, why not see what other local groups are doing? We have a web page for other musical groups in the area, with links to their websites where available. For an at-a-glance guide to what's on, visit Bob Barnes' Classical Moments page on the Radio Redhill website for details of concerts in Reigate and the surrounding areas, or the Concert Diary website for details of performances happening both locally, nationally and even internationally.
Saturday 24th April 2010
7.30p.m. at St Martin's Church, Dorking
A pupil of Mozart and successor to Haydn at Esterhazy, Hummel influenced the likes of Schubert and Chopin. The popularity of his Trumpet Concerto has given rise to a revival of his glorious Mass in Bb, packed with poetic sensitivity, lyricism and wonderfully flowing melodies. In celebration of British composer Andrew Carter's 70th birthday RRCS performs one of his most popular major choral works to date - his exhilarating and deeply moving Te Deum featuring electrifying settings of traditional words linked by powerful English texts. His brilliant Trumpet Tune opens the programme which also includes Gounod's Messe Breve in C.
Reigate and Redhill Choral Society are delighted that this concert will also feature the return of the amazingly talented ensemble 'Slide' from St Bede's School.
Saturday 1st May to Monday 3rd May 2010
St Germain-des-Prés and Notre Dame de Paris, Paris
A wonderful opportunity to experience the musical and social delights of touring with Reigate and Redhill Choral Society. Consistently popular with members, past performances have been staged at prestigious venues both in the UK and Overseas including prestigious venues in Paris, Lille, Brussels, Brugge, Rouen, Bristol and Bath, resulting in exhilarating performances and happy memories.
The repertoire performed on this tour will be that performed in Dorking on 24th April.
Saturday 3rd July 2010
7.30p.m. at St Martin's Church, Dorking
A passionate and evocative programme featuring some of the finest music from England and France. Duruflé's popular, visionary, and moving Requiem joins forces with the music of British composer Richard Blackford whose compositions are a regular feature on television, film and in theatre worldwide. Inspired by the painting of the Porziuncia (the chapel where St Francis of Assisi spent much of his life) Mirror of Perfection combines glorious French influences with distinctive echos of Walton and a great many other English masters.
If you would like to take part in these events, why not become a member of Reigate and Redhill Choral Society? Further details of our rehearsal schedule and how you can join are available on the How to join RRCS web page.
