Peter Farrant first began conducting at just 19 years of age whilst a student at the East Sussex Academy of Music. Furthering his musical studies at Kingston University, where he subsequently gained an honours degree in music, Peter was the winner of the 1993 conducting prize with a performance of Chabrier's Espana under the guidance of Adrian Brown, a past student of Sir Adrian Boult.
Since 1993 Peter has been highly successful in promoting
new and unusual works alongside mainstream repertoire working with organisations which
have included Kingston University Symphony Orchestra; Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra; Avon
Youth Orchestra; East Sussex Academy Orchestra, Choir, Wind Ensemble and Brass Ensemble;
Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra; Waveney Sinfonia; Portslade Community Choir; Sussex
Voiceworks; Reigate & Redhill Choral Society; Surrey Choral Festival; Surrey
ProMusica, The Brighton Singers; East Sussex Youth Vocal Ensemble, Chamber Choir &
Youth Opera; Brighton & Hove Regional Youth Choir; Lewes Regional Youth Choir and
Lewes Chamber Orchestra which he founded in 1992.
In 1995 Peter was selected for the British Reserve Conducting Prize/Seminar and in 1997 was awarded a scholarship to study with Danish conductor Jesper Grove Jørgensen.
Overseas, Peter has worked with one of the leading chamber orchestras in Hungary, The Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, as well as making concert appearances in Belgium and France. Appearances throughout the UK have included many premiere venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James' Piccadilly, Glyndebourne and The Royal Festival Hall.
In 1998, Peter worked for the first time with The Chameleon Arts Orchestra and became Director of the Surrey Choral Festival. Peter was selected for the London Symphony Orchestra / Nordell Conducting master class and worked with The Guildhall School of Music & Drama Symphony Orchestra. Recently he founded the professional orchestra Surrey ProMusica and has worked on numerous occasions with Surrey Sinfonietta and The Camerata of London in addition to holding a number of professional directorships.
